History
Brothers Netball Club, Mackay was founded 14years ago by the Wyer Family. The Club's aim has always been to provide players of any level a chance to play netball in a fun, family atmosphere. The emphasis is on enjoyment, not winning at all costs.
The Club started with 6 junior teams. This number fluctuated for the first 5 years. Senior teams were included in 1997.
The Club now has 20 teams with players ranging in age from 5 to 50 and divisions covering all offered by Mackay Netball. This year they will be entering two Premier League teams. The family atmosphere still exists after 14 years. The Wyer family now has three generations involved.
The Club insists that all coaches and umpires are accredited, thus giving players a firm base on which to build upon. This is reflected in the number of representative players that have come from Brothers. The Club has one (1) Level 2 Coach, ten (10) Level 1 Coaches and seven (7) OTC Accredited Coaches. They also have one (1) National B umpire and six (6) National C umpires, as well as numerous Association badged umpires and two (2) Nationally accredited Scorers. Several of our coaches and umpires and both our scorers have been involved in Representative Teams for Mackay Netball.
In 2004 the Club had it's first State Player, Teagan Drew, who was Captain of the State Primary Schools Queensland Team. This year Teagan has been selected into the Nth Qld Qld Academy of Sport. Teagan commenced her netball career at the age of 8 as a Brothers under 11 player, under the coaching of Melissa Balchin.
